First off, I just want to thank you for giving me the amazing opportunity to be your 2008-2009 Membership/Kadima Vice President. This is going to be a great year, I’m absolutely positive. “How do you know that, Hannah?” Great question! I know this is going to be a great year for CHUSY because I know the USYers, the staff, and the Regional Executive Board. Each of these consists of many dedicated, fun, and dynamic contemporary Jews looking to change the world in the best of ways.
Being Jewish is not a part-time commitment. It is a lifelong honor that consists of journeys, both spiritual and physical, learning, and devotion. As teenagers, we have enough struggles; for many, forming a Jewish identity is not a top priority. Many times people are “too busy” or “can’t relate enough” to spend time associating with something that involves religion. Enter USY: a fun, energetic, exciting, dynamic, and, that’s right, Jewish organization for teens just like you and me. CHUSY Region has so much to offer from ruach filled religious services, to a competitive basketball league, to lifelong friendships.
All this and more is just a few papers away. Handing in your USY membership form is the start of something new. It opens doors, windows, ventilation systems, sunroofs, etc. Once a member of USY, you can take on leadership roles, shape the future of American Jewry, meet new people, and help change the world.
CHUSY’s potential is larger than life, and I want to help our beloved region shine this year. Together, CHUSY, we will work to increase membership and involvement among USYers, and reach out to Kadima-niks, serving as role models and ‘cool older kids.’
